Practice Plus Group Hospital, Ilford and Practice Plus Group Surgical Centre, Gillingham, is thrilled to announce our new Medical Director, Nurul Ahad.
Mr Ahad, who has 25 years of medical experience, has worked at our hospital as the clinical lead since 2015. Through his role as orthopaedic lead, he has helped to shape the development of orthopaedic surgery across the country, including the pioneering use of day surgery joint replacement.
He qualified at Barts and London School of Medicine before joining Barking, Havering and Redbridge Trust as a Trauma Consultant. While at the Trust he also took on the role of Governance lead, setting in place robust procedures praised by Care Quality Commission inspectors.
He has also been published in numerous journals and presented papers on subjects as diverse as Achilles tendon ruptures, the effects of electrocution and spinal pain.
Mr Ahad said:
“I am delighted to be now leading service across Ilford and Gillingham Hospital. We are looking to increase the amount of specialisms we can offer, so that local people can receive the treatment they need without having to travel.
“We have earned a Good CQC rating and we will be working hard to maintain and improve on the high standards of care we already deliver to the thousands of patients we treat each year.”
As well as his work at the Hospitals, Mr Ahad volunteers for two medical and education charities which involve him in consultations with field workers, local leaders and MPs at home. This year he was also named as a Champion on the government’s BAME working group.
“This has been a challenging year for us all and at the centre we have worked hard to ensure our staff and patients are kept safe from COVID-19 with new sterilisation equipment and telemedicine.
In the wider community, I hope my role in the Government BAME working group will be helpful in not just keeping our community safe but also ensuring a bright and happy future for us all.”
