Your step-by-step guide to self-pay healthcare
The self-pay private healthcare process is designed to be as smooth and patient-friendly as possible. From booking your appointment to aftercare, our step-by-step guide will take you through each stage of the self-pay surgery journey.
The first step on your self-pay journey is to book an appointment. The good news here is that you don’t always need a referral. Generally, if you are paying for your own treatment you can self-refer; this means you won’t necessarily need to make a GP appointment beforehand. You can ring our Private Patient Advisors on 0330 818 8945 to find out what your options are. Once your referral is dealt with, our friendly staff will book you in at the private hospital of your choice.
At Practice Plus Group, you have the option of choosing a surgeon. Once you’ve done this and your appointment is booked, it’s time for your initial consultation. This includes a nurse’s assessment and an X-ray (if required). The consultant will then talk you through the treatment options and indicate whether further tests are required. Your initial consultation costs just £95.
When your consultation is finished and your treatment has been agreed with your consultant, you’ll be booked in for surgery at a time and date that’s convenient for you. Depending on the type of treatment you need, from this point, the time until your actual surgery day will likely be between four and six weeks.
Payment needs to be made seven days prior to the start of your treatment. This can be made via credit or debit card, BACS, or through our finance partner Chrysalis. Finance options are available meaning you can spread the cost of treatment over time. These range from 12 months at 0% APR to longer-term options from 24-60 months at 14.9% APR.
We’re committed to honest pricing which means that the quote we give you for treatment is all inclusive. This includes prescriptions, aftercare, equipment used and any extra complications that may arise. Your fixed price treatment package includes prescriptions, aftercare, equipment used, and any extra complications that may arise.
In the days and weeks leading up to your surgery, it’s a good idea to do some preparation. You’ll likely need to think about travel arrangements to and from the hospital, turning your home into an environment that will help you recover, and packing a bag to take with you during your stay with us.

Thanks to our commitment to continuity of high-quality care, you can rest assured that while you’re having your treatment, our friendly and experienced nursing team will be with you every step of the way. You’ll also enjoy our state-of-the-art facilities and ongoing excellent clinical outcomes.
Your aftercare is also included in the price of your treatment. So, any extra help you need during your recovery will be financially covered and tailored to your specific needs. You’ll be given a telephone number you can ring at any time, in case you have any concerns or questions after your surgery.
At Practice Plus Group, we practise the Enhanced Recovery Pathway (ERP). This is a modern, evidence-based approach that helps people recover quickly from major surgery, often returning home on the same day as their surgery. Your consultant will discuss with you whether you’re a suitable candidate for ERP.
